Marine Iguanas on Fernandina Island

We had a problem on Fernandina Island, one of the newest of the Galapagos Islands. As soon as we left the panga – aka in other regions as “zodiac” rubber boats – we were stopped in our tracks by iguanas and other wildlife. These marine iguanas are huddled for warmth near the surf. They will regularly dive into the surf to find their only food source – algae that grows on the ocean floor.
