Valella Valella is scientific name of these wonderful little jellyfish that live on the surface of the ocean. They are commonly known by the names sea raft, by-the-wind sailor, purple sail, little sail – all of which describe how they look and how they are moved by the wind. Under certain wind conditions, they may be stranded by the thousand on beaches. There were not that many on Bandon Beach – but there were quite a few. This image is taken within inches of the closest of them and the wonderful Nikon 24 mm PCE lens permitted me to keep them in focus as well as the sea stacks in the background.
