Matera: Sasso Caveoso

There are two sasso districts: the more restored, northwest-facing Sasso Barisano and this area – the more impoverished, northeast-facing Sasso Caveoso. This view shows the serpertine alleyways and stairdcses, many created between the 8th and 13th centuries.
